History
The Tallong Memorial Hall was built to honour those who served in the Frist World War but was also a matter of pride, a project begun to celebrate the fact that the village’s population was approaching 200. …. The building committee worked hard; fundraisers were creative and included an “ugliest Man in Town” contest. Volunteer labour was valued at over £300. Fnally, the committee took out a loan from the Bank of Australasia for the balance. The Hon. G. Fuller, M.L.A., opened the Memorial Hall in May 1920, in front of a large crowd (see the following photo).
Nowadays the Hall is the focal point for community activities:
Monday- Quilting,Craft, anything goes group.All welcome 10-2pm Community Library open 10-2pm
Tuesday- Karate
Wednesday- Knitting Group 2nd & 4th of the month- All Welcome
Thursday- Karate
Friday- Quilting Group , Community Library open 10-12pm Line Dancing 6.30pm call 0432 022 864 to confirm
The Hall is also used frequently for community meetings,council outreach meetings and is available to Tallong Public School to use as a alternate hall site.
The Hall is a central point for the Annual Tallong Apple Day Festival.
The Tallong Memorial Hall is the designated evacuation point for the Tallong Community.
We are very lucky in Tallong to have such a wonderful community facility at our finger tips!
The Hall is administered by a Trust lead by Kerry Lawrence.
